On June 6, 2025, the M-Pesa Foundation announced Wezesha Mama, a new nationwide programme to help women’s groups in Kenya grow their businesses and improve their lives. The launch took place at Mombasa Sports Club during the M-PESA Sokoni Festival, as the Foundation marked 15 years of making a difference in Kenyan communities.

Wezesha Mama aims to support over 500 registered women’s groups across all 47 counties. The programme offers training in financial and digital skills, business planning, marketing, branding, and product improvement. It also provides access to grants for the best-performing groups. After the 12-month programme, the top three groups from five regions will receive grants of KES 500,000, KES 300,000, or KES 200,000 to support their businesses. Participants will also join the M-PESA Mama Network, a community where women entrepreneurs can share ideas and learn from each other.

“Wezesha Mama is more than a programme; it’s a movement to give women the tools to succeed. When women do well, their communities benefit too, and we’re excited to start this journey at the coast and expand across Kenya,” said Nicholas Nganga, Chairman of the M-Pesa Foundation.

The initiative builds on the Foundation’s past work with organizations like Hand in Hand East Africa and Rose Women Foundation, which have helped thousands of women with business training and funding. Wezesha Mama continues this mission to empower women economically.

The launch was part of the M-PESA Sokoni campaign, a two-month event celebrating 18 years of M-PESA’s role in transforming Kenya’s digital and financial landscape. The campaign highlights M-PESA’s impact on millions of Kenyans. The coastal events will wrap up with the M-PESA Sokoni Festival on June 7, 2025, at Mombasa Sports Club Grounds, bringing together communities to celebrate progress and entrepreneurship. With Wezesha Mama, the M-Pesa Foundation is taking bold steps to support women and strengthen communities across Kenya.
