In a big move for Kenya’s green economy, Stanbic Kenya Foundation has teamed up with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to launch the Women Employment for the Green Transformation (WE4D) program. This initiative aims to empower 300 women-led small enterprises in Kenya’s green sector through specialized training, coaching, and enhanced access to financial services. Applications are now open, offering a unique opportunity for women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and drive sustainable growth.

A Catalyst for Growth and Sustainability

The WE4D program is designed to strengthen business management skills and facilitate access to formal financial services, enabling women-led enterprises to grow, create jobs, and build resilience. Targeting sustainable industries such as renewable energy, waste management, aquaculture, eco-tourism, and sustainable agriculture, the program also supports businesses in greening sectors—like logistics, transport, and construction—that adopt environmentally friendly practices.

“We believe women-led enterprises are catalysts for inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability,” said Pauline Mbayah, Head of Stanbic Kenya Foundation. “This program continues our commitment to equip local entrepreneurs with the skills and financial tools they need to thrive.”

Thomas Jaeschke, WE4D program team leader in Kenya, emphasized the broader impact: “Investing in women entrepreneurs in the green space strengthens local economies and is essential for unlocking the full potential of the green economy. This partnership supports women to scale their impact and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.”
