Towards the end of last year, I made the decision to return to school to take some courses, and now I’m an active student. However, that’s not the story I want to share today. Instead, I want to tell you about my experience with the ASUS Zenbook A14 as a student. At the beginning of the year, I needed a laptop that could help me with efficient note-taking during classes and group work. Luckily, a few weeks ago, an ASUS representative in Kenya provided me with a Zenbook A14 to use and review.
Personally, I have never been one to get excited about the aesthetics, size, or weight of a gadget. I’m more focused on functionality and productivity. But this time, I was genuinely impressed by the Zenbook A14’s size and weight. As a student, I needed something lightweight and easy to carry, and the Zenbook A14 fit the bill perfectly—not just for its portability but also for its elegance.
After using the ASUS Zenbook A14 for a few days, I understood why it has carved out a niche for itself in the crowded laptop market. Its premium design, vibrant display, and solid performance make it stand out.
Portability Meets Elegance
The Zenbook A14 is a testament to ASUS’s commitment to craftsmanship. Its aluminum chassis feels sturdy yet refined, and the laptop’s compact form factor—weighs less than 1kg and measures 1.1 cm thin—makes it easy to slip into a bag and carry around all day. As a student, I’ve never been happier to have the right gadget at the right time.
The signature ErgoLift hinge, which gently angles the keyboard for a more comfortable typing position, is a thoughtful touch. It also doubles as a cooling mechanism, lifting the base to improve airflow. The laptop’s minimalist aesthetic, complete with the iconic concentric-circle design on the lid, adds a touch of class.
Display
The Zenbook A14’s 14-inch display is one of its standout features. The base models come with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel, but the higher-end variants boast a stunning 3K OLED display with a resolution of 2880 x 1800. The OLED screen delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and exceptional contrast, making it ideal for creative work, streaming, and everyday use.
The NanoEdge bezels are impressively thin, maximizing screen real estate and giving the laptop a modern, edge-to-edge look. However, the OLED panel’s power consumption can be a drain on battery life, which is a trade-off worth considering if display quality is a top priority for you.
Performance
Performance is my top priority when it comes to gadgets. I believe that no matter how good a device looks or feels, it’s useless if it can’t perform tasks efficiently. The ASUS Zenbook A14 allowed me to seamlessly switch between student work, regular tasks, and entertainment. Equipped with a 3.42GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor and 32GB of RAM, the Zenbook A14 handles everyday tasks with ease. Whether you’re browsing the web, working on documents, or multitasking across multiple applications, the laptop delivers smooth and responsive performance.
The inclusion of fast SSD storage (up to 1TB) ensures quick boot times and snappy file access. The Qualcomm Adreno GPU makes it a decent choice for casual gaming due to its compact and portable design, coupled with its solid performance. However, this isn’t a laptop for hardcore gamers or full-scale video editors, but it’s more than capable for the average user.
Keyboard and Trackpad
The backlit keyboard is comfortable to type on, with decent key travel and a responsive feel. However, the compact layout may feel cramped for users with larger hands.
The touchpad, on the other hand, is a highlight. It’s spacious, accurate, and supports a variety of multi-touch gestures. ASUS’s NumberPad 2.0—a built-in LED numeric keypad that doubles as the touchpad—is a clever addition for those who frequently work with numbers.
Battery Life
Battery performance is very solid. As someone who often moves between locations, some without access to power sources, I found the Zenbook A14’s battery life more than satisfactory. On a single charge, it lasted between 14 to 16 hours with moderate use. I estimate that under intense use, it would last around 12 hours, though I didn’t test this extensively by the time of writing this review. The OLED models, while visually stunning, tend to consume more power, resulting in a slightly shorter battery life.
Fast charging is a welcome feature, allowing users to quickly top up the battery to 60% in about 50 minutes—a boon for those constantly on the move. This feature worked perfectly for me.
Connectivity
The Zenbook A14 offers a good selection of ports, including HDMI 2.1, USB-C (with Thunderbolt 4 on Intel models), USB-A, and a microSD card reader. However, the absence of an Ethernet port may frustrate users who rely on wired internet connections.
Wireless connectivity is up to par, with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 ensuring fast and reliable connections.
Audio and Webcam
The ASUS SonicMaster stereo speakers deliver clear audio, but they lack depth and bass, making external speakers or headphones a better option for immersive sound.
The 1080 FHD webcam is serviceable for video calls but falls short in terms of sharpness and low-light performance. In an era where remote work and virtual meetings are the norm, the lack of a higher-quality webcam feels like a missed opportunity.
AI Integration
There has been a lot of discussion around the future of AI in recent weeks, and it’s interesting to see how different companies are integrating AI into their product lines. ASUS has integrated AI engines in the Zenbook A14 for enhanced performance, security, and personalization. It supports Windows Copilot as well as ASUS StoryCube for AI-driven productivity and media management. Additionally, the two-way AI noise cancellation ensures clear audio during calls.

Conclusion
The ASUS Zenbook A14 is a well-rounded ultrabook that excels in design, portability, and display quality. It’s an excellent choice for professionals and students who need a reliable and stylish laptop for everyday tasks. However, it has some limitations when it comes to graphics performance and webcam quality.
If you’re in the market for a sleek, lightweight laptop that balances form and function, the Zenbook A14 is worth considering. In my opinion, it’s best for professionals, students, and casual users seeking a portable, stylish, and dependable laptop for everyday productivity and multimedia.
