In an exciting development for Kenyan consumers, Majid Al Futtaim has announced the opening of its 24th Carrefour store in the country, strategically located in Ruiru Town at the newly developed Nord Mall. This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing convenience and accessibility to high-quality products for residents in the rapidly growing Nairobi satellite towns.

A Hub of Convenience and Variety

Spanning approximately 2,500m², the new store is designed to meet the diverse needs of the community. Shoppers can look forward to a wide selection of consumer goods, including home appliances, electronics, groceries, and fresh food. By establishing a presence in Ruiru, Carrefour is making it easier for local residents to access affordable products without traveling far.

In addition to its retail offerings, the Ruiru store will serve as a key hub for Carrefour’s e-commerce operations, catering to the expanding market in Kiambu County and the greater Nairobi Metropolitan area, including Thika Town. This dual approach of physical and online shopping enhances the overall customer experience, providing greater flexibility and convenience.

Commitment to the Community

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa for Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed enthusiasm about the new location: “We are thrilled to be establishing a presence in Ruiru, a vibrant and rapidly expanding community. Our commitment to our customers is to provide them with greater convenience by extending our services closer to them and improving access to high-quality, affordable products.”

The new Carrefour store is expected to create 67 job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled labor, adding to the company’s existing workforce of over 2,200 employees across Kenya. This commitment to local employment underscores Carrefour’s dedication to contributing positively to the economy.

Supporting Local Businesses

Beyond providing jobs, the expansion will also benefit the local economy by offering avenues for business growth to more than 700 local farmers, SMEs, and manufacturers who supply goods to the retailer. Majid Al Futtaim has a remarkable 99% local sourcing rate, demonstrating its commitment to supporting Kenyan businesses and promoting sustainable development.

Orcet highlighted this commitment, stating: “We are committed to contributing to the growth of the country’s economy through the expansion of our omnichannel operations, both online and offline. This expansion will enable more local farmers and manufacturers to increase their supply capacities to meet the demands of our new market in Ruiru.”

Growing Footprint in Kenya

With the opening of this new store, Carrefour now operates 19 locations in Nairobi, along with 3 in Mombasa and 2 in Kisumu. This expansion strategy is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s broader vision to enhance the shopping experience for consumers across Kenya and to support the local economy through job creation and local sourcing.

As Carrefour continues to grow its presence in Kenya, residents of Ruiru can look forward to a new era of shopping convenience, quality products, and community support. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh groceries or the latest electronics, the new Carrefour store is set to be a valuable addition to the local landscape.
