As the festive season approaches, Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications provider, has unveiled its Christmas campaign, “Sambaza Furaha,” which translates to “Spread Happiness.” This month-long initiative is a testament to the company’s commitment to fostering community spirit and enhancing customer experiences during the holiday season.
Sharing the Season’s Blessings
The “Sambaza Furaha” campaign is set to bring smiles across the nation with a series of delightful surprises. Customers can expect gifts such as airtime and special offers designed to make the festive season brighter. In line with its 20-year legacy of transforming lives, the Safaricom Foundation is actively participating in the campaign by distributing care packages to hospitals, food hampers, and organizing visits to children’s homes and lunch drives for street families.
Gamified Customer Engagement
Safaricom is taking customer engagement to the next level with gamified experiences on its website. Customers are invited to spin a digital wheel for a chance to win incredible prizes, including data offers, airtime, coupons, and more, by redeeming their Bonga Points. This interactive element not only enhances engagement but also captures the essence of sharing and joy during the festive period.
A Message from the CEO
Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, emphasizes the campaign’s deeper meaning: “This festive season, we aim to spread joy and kindness through special delights for our customers. ‘Sambaza Furaha’ is about uniting as a community, spreading Christmas cheer, and positively impacting those around us. Despite the economic challenges many face, we are dedicated to supporting our customers so they can still enjoy the festive season.”
Rewarding Experiences with Bonga Points
The campaign introduces a 1:1 ratio for Bonga Points redemption, allowing customers to exchange points for voice and data services. For instance, 60 Bonga Points can be redeemed for 60 minutes of talk time valid for 2 hours, or 250 points for 250MBs valid until midnight. Additionally, 4G Wi-Fi routers are available at a discounted price, reduced from KES 6,999 to KES 2,999, catering to home internet needs.
Innovative Features and Discounts
Key features of the campaign include the “Niokolee Na Bonga” option, enabling customers to pay for utilities and essential services using Bonga Points at Lipa Na M-PESA merchants. This initiative adds value to the points and embodies the spirit of giving back during the holidays. Customers can also settle their Fuliza loans with Bonga Points and purchase Neon smartphones, assembled locally, with a mix of points and cash.
Bonga For Good and M-PESA Discounts
In the spirit of giving, “Bonga For Good” allows customers to donate points to organizations like the World Food Programme, UNHCR, and World Vision. M-PESA users will enjoy up to 20% off local flights, SGR train tickets, and bus gift vouchers when paying through M-PESA Mini Apps.
Savings on Food and Travel
The MySafaricom App offers discounts of up to 33% at select brands and up to 40% on travel with partners like Bella Safaris, Bonfire, and Travel Shore. Accommodation discounts of 20% are available at Alba Hotel Meru, Social House Nairobi, and Ciala Resort Kisumu.
Launch Event and Community Engagement
The campaign kicked off with a lunch drive at Hon. John Njoroge Secondary School in Kasarani, Nairobi. Safaricom shared meals and distributed food items, including live Mbuzis and chickens, reinforcing the campaign’s goal of making a positive impact and bringing communities together.
As Safaricom’s “Sambaza Furaha” campaign unfolds, it promises to be a beacon of connectivity and goodwill, embodying the true spirit of the holiday season and the joy of sharing.
