Xiaomi Africa recently launched an online photography campaign inviting fans to showcase their photography skills using Xiaomi phones. The campaign, dubbed #SafariWithXiaomi, attracted over 1,000 participants who shared their photos for a chance to win a 3-day trip to Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves.
The lucky winners were Patrick Philemon Kulinganila from Tanzania, John Oluwamokamiyo, Samson Osas, Victor Onokaye, Emmanuel Kenechukwu from Nigeria, and Yonis Mohammed from Kenya. Xiaomi fulfilled its promise and took the winners, along with professional photographers Alamin Mutunga and Kenneth Obina (Khali Jones), on a trip to Maasai Mara in August 2023.
The trip was not only a reward for the winners, but also an opportunity to experience the evolution of Xiaomi phone cameras, which have brought high-quality imaging to users. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, with its 200MP camera and 4K video capabilities, was showcased as an example of the advancements in mobile photography, empowering users to explore their creativity and capture stunning moments.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G offers features such as Pro Mode, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, preinstalled filters, and powerful photo editing software. This combination of features contributes to the exceptional image quality and versatility of the camera, allowing users to take photos in different scenarios and conditions. Whether it is a close-up of a lion’s mane, a panoramic view of the savannah, or a portrait of a Maasai warrior, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G can handle it with ease.
The winners had a fun-filled trip to Maasai Mara, experiencing the iconic African wilderness, wildlife, landscapes, and cultural immersion. They witnessed the great wildebeest migration, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, where millions of animals cross the Mara River while avoiding crocodiles and other predators. They also interacted with the local Maasai people, who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries and have a rich culture and heritage.
Alamin Mutunga, a professional photographer who accompanied the winners, appreciated the convenience and quality of Xiaomi phone cameras for capturing natural-looking subjects. He said that he was impressed by the clarity and detail of the photos taken by the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. He also suggested some improvements in color profiles and focus for future models.
Alamin feels that Xiaomi is living up to its brand purpose of making innovations accessible to all, allowing users to capture and share everyday moments easily. He said that Xiaomi phones are affordable and reliable devices that can compete with other brands in terms of performance and features.
Patrick Philemon Kulinganila, a Tanzanian photographer who won the trip, said that he had always dreamed of visiting Maasai Mara and that he was grateful to Xiaomi for making it possible. He praised the Xiaomi team’s reception and hospitality during the trip and said that he enjoyed using the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. He said that he liked the features of the camera, especially the Pro Mode and the filters.
Kenneth Obina (Khali Jones), a Nigerian tech enthusiast and photographer who also joined the trip, said that he appreciated the warm welcome from Xiaomi and called the Maasai Mara experience his best ever. He said that he has been using Xiaomi phones since 2016 and that he has witnessed the growth and innovation of Xiaomi devices over time.
Kenneth believes that Xiaomi has lived up to its slogan, “innovation for everyone,” as he has seen how Xiaomi phones have improved their camera quality and functionality over the years. He said that Xiaomi phones are not only good for communication, but also for photography and entertainment.
