Majid Al Futtaim Retail, the owner and operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has launched a new initiative to empower and recruit young talent for its regional operations. The Retail Graduate Programme, which is in collaboration with 12 top universities across six countries, aims to provide a platform for graduates to kickstart their careers in the retail industry. The programme also has a strong focus on promoting gender diversity, as it targets 50% of the positions for talented female candidates.

What is the Retail Graduate Programme?

The Retail Graduate Programme is a 24-month on-the-job training programme that exposes graduates to different aspects of the retail business, such as in-store operations, e-commerce, and merchandise functions. The programme is designed to equip participants with a deep understanding of the modern retail industry and to fast-track their career progression. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will have the opportunity to secure full-time supervisory-level positions within Carrefour.

The programme is open to nationals from Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Kenya, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates. In Kenya, Majid Al Futtaim Retail has partnered with The University of Nairobi and Strathmore University. These universities will help to organise job fairs and on-campus career events and sessions to raise awareness about the grocery retail business and its various functions, while also providing students with invaluable insights into the industry.

Why is the Carrefour programme important?

The programme is important for several reasons. First, it represents Majid Al Futtaim Retail’s dedication to supporting the young generation in developing their skills and potential in the retail industry.
