Vtabu is an online platform that provides access to a wide range of e-books, journals, and other digital resources for learners, educators, researchers, and enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. You can browse, read, download, and share books on any topic, genre, or level of education, from preschool to university and beyond. You can also find books that are aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which aims to nurture the talents and skills of young learners as their future career opportunities.
Vtabu was launched on 12 July 2023 by the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba, who also unveiled a tier-two data centre and a digitisation hub that is part of the Kenya National Library Services (KNLS) initiative. The data centre offers cloud storage services for state agencies and other public institutions, while the digitisation hub allows Kenyans to upload their books, records, newspapers, or photographs for preservation and dissemination.
The Cabinet Secretary also declared 12 July as the annual national reading day, to promote a culture of reading and learning among Kenyans. He urged the relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to partner with KNLS in promoting knowledge sharing in schools, higher learning institutions, and TVETs. He also encouraged the youth to use Vtabu as a platform to monetise their literary works through the Talanta Hela initiative, which supports creativity and innovation.
To access Vtabu, all you need is an internet-enabled device and a membership fee that is affordable and convenient. You can pay as little as Sh20 per day or Sh2500 per year using wireless payment platforms. You can also download the Vtabu app from Google Playstore and enjoy its features offline.
Vtabu is not just a virtual library; it is also a digital skills hub that provides on-demand training in areas such as coding, digital marketing, graphic design, and ICT skills. You can use these skills to pursue online digital jobs or start your own ventures.
Vtabu is a revolutionary project that aims to transform the lives of millions of Kenyans by providing them with access to quality education, information, entertainment, and empowerment. It is a platform that celebrates the diversity and richness of Kenyan culture and literature. It is a tool that fosters curiosity, creativity, and collaboration among learners and educators.
