Factors like the target audience, competitors, industry norms, and the intended function of a product are some of the key considerations to take into account when deciding on a product’s name. I am not sure how much of those Zoho considered before coming up with Ulaa as a browser name. From where I sit, Ulaa is a terrible name but well, that’s what Zoho found to resonate well with them.
Having gotten that out of the way, Zoho says that Ulaa is a browser built with a privacy-centric design, focused on helping users secure their personal data and internet activity. They also say that the browser offers a solution that blocks tracking and website surveillance, making it a great option for those who value their privacy.
According to a Norton survey, 85% of global adults want to do more to protect their online privacy. Ulaa is Zoho Corporation’s answer to this growing demand for increased privacy protection. Designed to help users protect their personal information from the prying eyes of user tracking, Ulaa is the next step in Zoho’s long-standing commitment to privacy.
“Not many browsers on the market today are built to protect user privacy,” said Veerakumar Natarajan, Country Head, Zoho Kenya. “With Ulaa, users don’t have to compromise their privacy to browse the web, which unfortunately has become a surveillance minefield.”
Ulaa was developed to protect against tracking and surveillance and is rooted in three main areas: privacy, productivity, and unique browsing modes. Privacy features include ad and data tracking blockers, prohibiting DNS prefetching, and disabling motion sensors that track mouse movement and clicks. Users can also enjoy Ulaa’s multi-ID model, which offers unique IDs tied to the browser that is refreshed frequently to protect against tracking software.
In addition to privacy, Ulaa offers productivity features such as tabs management options, integrated productivity apps, and Annotator, a built-in feature that allows users to add annotations directly to web pages and images. Ulaa also offers five browsing modes that are isolated from each other, providing unique protected browsing experiences. Users can choose from Personal Mode, Work Mode, Developer Mode, Kids Mode, and Open Season Mode. Each mode is tailored to different needs, allowing users to switch between them easily.
Personal and Work Modes offer different features for home or work use, while Developer Mode is perfect for web developers and testers. Kids Mode is family-friendly and provides a safe online space for children to learn and play, while Open Season Mode has no privacy restrictions and allows access to all websites.
