ASUS recently introduced two laptops in the market, the Vivobook Pro 14X and 16X OLED, two identical laptops that differ only on size, screen refresh rate, battery capacity, weight and price. This article fully reviews the specs of Vivobook Pro 16X OLED given that it is the laptop that we received for the handson review.

Vivobook Pro 16X OLED is located between the Zenbook pro and the Vivobook series, to target lifestyle creators, vloggers, and artists. Design wise, it is less minimalistic and traditional than a Zenbook pro, but not as colourful as the regular Vivobooks. The laptop comes in Comet Grey or Cool Silver and uses a new weave-textured coating that helps prevent fingerprints and smudges and feels like very fine sandpaper.

Blue Light Reduction for Eye Care

Blue light is known to cause visual discomfort and disrupt sleep quality. By calibrating the spectrum, ASUS OLED laptops emit 70% less harmful blue light. Unlike traditional blue-light filters, shifting the spectrum means there’is no need to compromise color accuracy.

Since children’s eyes are not fully developed, with a more transparent lens and cornea, harmful blue light can penetrate the eye more easily – with 80% blue light pass-through for 5 year-old children, compared to 20% for 60 year-old adults.

Great clarity at low brightness

When calculating the 3D color volume — which adds illumination to the traditional 2D color gamut — ASUS OLED displays have about a 60% higher color volume, offering better color performance at any brightness level.

When comparing color expression under different brightness, OLED’s color expression stays the same even at lower brightness, while LCD colors degrade significantly. 

ASUS OLED laptops are able to show great detail at lower brightness settings. This means you can see the content more clearly without having to turn up the brightness; therefore, your eye consumes even less blue light.

ASUS OLED laptops are able to maintain color detail at any brightness, so you can adapt the brightness according to your usage environment. With lower brightness needed on OLED displays, less blue light would penetrate through your eyes.

Extreme Contrast, Astonishing Detail

OLED display has millions of light-emitting diode (LED), instead of just 50 or 60 LEDs in the LCD display. It can turn on and off the LED for each pixel on the screen, and achieve true black with 1,000,000 :1 extreme contrast ratio.

0.2ms Instant response for smooth actions

ASUS OLED displays have an ultrafast 0.2 ms response time, which is 50x faster compared to the average laptop LCD display. This ensures smoother fast-paced action scenes, low-latency gameplay, and subtle details like blur-free text scrolling.

ASUS OLED burn-in prevention 

With extended use, certain pixels on the display may age, resulting in degraded colors (burn-in). To prevent the OLED to burn in, these are the precautions taken:

• Default shipping in Windows dark mode
• Default OLED screen protection: Dim the screen after 5-minutes idle   
• Samsung OLED burn-in refine technology
• Warranty of OLED screens: 7000hrs guaranteed (@200nit)

Samsung’s OLED current driving algorithm detects the aging pixels and enhances the current passing through these pixels – this mechanism enables the degraded pixels to display brighter colors, and as a result, shows accurate perceived colors.

Three-sided NanoEdge display

The new NanoEdge display on Vivobook Pro 14X OLED continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible — the new three-sided NanoEdge display now has an even narrower bezel along the top, side and bottom of the display. This results in an 86% screen-to-body ratio that provides unrivaled immersion in a much more compact package. 

TÜV Rheinland Certified for Eye Comfort

Flickering screens can cause discomfort and eye strain to your daily life; with TÜV Rheinland flicker-free technology, the laptops can lower the discomfort of eye fatigue.
