As of today one may argue that the most affordable but fully functional low budget smartphone is worth Shs 15K, and that’s where the latest low budget smartphone from TECNO MOBILE, the Tecno Spark 5 Pro, ranges. If however you hop over at Jumia you’ll find the phone being sold for between shs 13,500 and Shs 14,000. Interesting though was this listing I saw of the same phone that the seller had listed for shs half a million. I doubt it is a mistake – and it won’t be surprising to find a Kenyan spending half a million shillings for a gadget he can get for shs 13K.
Tecno Spark 5 Pro is one of those devices that come with specs at the bear minimum. The screen resolution for example hasn’t hit 1080p – it stills offers a 720 by 1600 pixels on a screen ratio of 20:9 giving the device a resolution density of ~266 ppi. Although there is a variation for 4GB RAM (which should work smoothly with most apps), the common variant is that which features 3GB RAM – a RAM size that when coupled with the 1.8GHz and 1.5GHz processors doesn’t handle multitasking well, but you only need to worry if you are a heavy gamer.
It’s not all bear minimum though, as the internal storage hasn’t been set at 32 GB (there are phones that still come with 16 GB internal storage) but whether it is the 3 GB RAM version or the 4 GB RAM version, you get to get a decent 64 GB storage, storage that’s sufficient for storing your precious photos and videos, and of course sufficient to allow you to install all of your favorite apps. Remember, in the event you run out of memory, you can always add a memcard as the phone allows that.
The best part of Tecno Spark 5 Pro is that it comes with a 5000 mAh battery, one of the highest battery sizes in the market today. Such a battery capacity ought to allow you stay with charge for at least two days under normal usage conditions, but as I recently found, a phone that’s put on airplane mode every time that it is not in use can stay with power for more than a month.
Generally speaking therefore Tecno Spark 5 Pro is a phone that perfectly fits those who do not want to break an arm and a leg on smartphones but at the same time want to own a fairly decent decivice for their day to day phone services. Social media, phone calls, WhatsApp and text messaging are perfectly served by the phone.
