OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, 5G wireless charging enabled smartphones unveiled

OnePlus, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer founded in 2013 by an ex-employee of OPPO Electronics, Pete Lau has launched its 2020 flagship models, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus has just set a standard for the year 2020 and it could be a year of expensive smartphones even as the world faces unprecedented times caused the COVID-19 pandemic. The OnePlus 8 is $699, a $100 increase over the $599 OnePlus 7T launched in September 2019, and the OnePlus 8 Pro is $899, a whopping $230 increase over the $669 OnePlus 7 Pro unveiled in May 2019.

The Chinese company with its high-spec phones continues to put notices on other manufacturers despite not investing so much in marketing like how Samsung company does every time they have new releases. The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processors, are 5G-enabled, have Wi-Fi 6 and share the same overall design. OnePlus says the latest Snapdragon 865 delivers up to 25% faster performance than the previous generations. The OnePlus 8’s display measures 6.55 inches with an FHD+ resolution of 1080×2400 while the 8 Pro’s screen is 6.78 inches and has a QHD+ resolution of 3168×1440. The OnePlus 8 series can automatically switch between 5G and non-5G networks to prolong battery life and maintain your connection.

OnePlus 8 is designed to impress, with 4096 levels and auto-brightness that precisely adjusts the display to a more comfortable brightness setting. The easy reading mode optimizes your device for a more enjoyable reading experience with improved color features. You are able to choose between a saturated display or turn it to monochrome for more comfortable reading day or night. The 6.55″ fluid display flows seamlessly from one frame to the next, with a 90 Hz refresh rate that allows you to swipe, scroll, and navigate with ease. It connects to multiple networks at the same time for wider coverage and faster potential download speeds that enable the phone to transfer photos, videos, and files in a snap with UFS 3.0 file management system. An improved file system that delivers 125% faster write-speeds than the previous flagships.

OnePlus 8 warp charge 30T charges your phone from 1 to 50 percent in just 22 minutes and has a high-capacity 4300 mAh battery to keep your device on for a full day’s use. For entertainment, the phone has powerful dual stereo speakers that deliver more immersive and detailed sound for a cinematic, 3D listening experience with Dolby Atmos support. The rear camera is 48 megapixels, 0.8µm with lens quantity of 6P and aperture of f/1.75. It can record 4K UHD or 1080p HD videos at 30/60 fps and is equipped with a video editor. The 8 series is quad-camera phones.

OnePlus 8 Pro, on the other hand, is fully calibrated with a brilliant 6.78″ QHD+ display, 120 Hz refresh rate and over 280 software optimizations that deliver ultra-high color accuracy for a true-to-life viewing experience. With OnePlus 8 Pro, the battery which is also 4,510mAh supports wired or wireless charging of up to 30 watts, remember the highly publicized iPhone 11 Pro maxes out at 7.5 watts wirelessly. OnePlus improved charging technology ensures that your phone charges up fast enough to keep up with you.  Its wireless chargers cost $69.95 and come with chips to communicate with the phone to prevent overheating. It also has a fan to pull air through a vent behind the phone.

The model allows you to capture the moment with a powerful 48 MP quad camera. A new high-resolution ultra-wide-angle camera expands your view while dynamic video lets you shoot more vibrant and detailed videos. The 8 Pro’s sets of cameras are a 3x 8-megapixel telephoto camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 5-megapixel color filter camera and a front-facing 16-megapixel lens.
