Cloak & Dagger – Fresh, New and First on Showmax

Cloak & Dagger

I’m so very surprised. Very. I have always known that Showmax can only bring to us shows that are at least two years old. If they do better, their head of communications once told me, they could bring shows that are as new as six months old. But today I got an email asking me to check out their new fresh, new and first on Showmax series, Cloak & Dagger. Then I Googled the title, and landed on the Wikipedia Page about the show, which said, “The series, consisting of 10 episodes, premiered on June 7, 2018 and will run through August 2.” That is, Showmax acquired Cloak & Dagger a mere day after it premiered at ABC.

Cloak & Dagger is a TV series featuring the Marvel comic characters Cloak (Tyrone Johnson) and Dagger (Tandy Bowen) who fall in love then acquire superpowers. They however discover that their superpowers work best when they are together, but this working is complicated by the fact that they have feelings for each other.

According to the Wikipedia article on the Series, critics have so given it positive reviews, “praising the interaction between Holt and Joseph, the use of New Orleans, and the story, but criticized the pacing in the early episodes.”

The main cast for Cloak & Dagger are Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger, Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson / Cloak, Gloria Reuben as Adina Johnson: Tyrone’s mother, Andrea Roth as Melissa Bowen: Tandy’s mother, J. D. Evermore as Connors: An intimidating detective with a secret, Miles Mussenden as Otis Johnson: Tyrone’s father, Carl Lundstedt as Liam Walsh: Tandy’s criminal partner and boyfriend (love triangle there), Emma Lahana as Brigid O’Reilly: A detective with hardened New York sensibilities who believes no one is above the law, including other cops, and Jaime Zevallos as Delgado: A school counselor and priest.

The first and the second episodes of Cloak & Dagger premiered on June 7, 2018 (that’s yesterday and technically this morning if you are reading this from Kenya), with the third episode scheduled to air on June 14, 2018, the forth episode to run on June 21, 2018 and the fifth on June 28, 2018. The other five episodes will run throughout August with the season’s finale running on August 2, 2018. If the trend Showmax has set continues, then Showmax subscribers will always be able to get the new episodes just a day after they have aired on ABC.
