I wish the name of this phone was Horror! It would made it a more attention seeking device, probably scary. Then they would have put the theme colour to be black and red, and probably partnered with Vampire Diaries to have Nina Dobrev be the face ambassador of the horror phone. If that happened, then lovers of Vampire Diaries and related horror movies and shows, me excluded, would have fallen in love with the horror phone. But too bad, the name of Huawei P20 Pro’s smaller sibling, is a boring Huawei Honor 10. I wanted the name of this phone to be Horror 10 so badly that while searching for the device online I always end up typing in “Huawei Horror 10”!
Huawei Honor 10 is basically identical to Huawei P20, with the major differentiating factor being the Phantom Blue rear panel that the Honor 10 has borrowed from the Huawei P20 Pro. Another tiny little difference is that the Honor 10 comes in two flavors, a 4GB RAM variant and a 6GB RAM variant, and finally the fact that the the phones are selling at huge different price points.
One may want to ask why Huawei would release two identical phones to the market almost at the same time. There are two answers; the first is that Huawei Honor is by the Honor subsidiary of Huawei, which operates almost distinctively from the parent company. The second reason is that the Horror Honor is way much cheaper than the P flagship, by almost Kshs 20,000 difference, as the P20 is selling at around Kshs 80,000 whereas the Honor 10 is likely to be available in Kenya from July/August for a price point of roughly Kshs 60,000.
The huge difference in price may be due to the rear camera. While Huawei Honor 10 has f/1.8 lens for both the 16MP colour and 24MP monochrome sensors, the Huawei P20 has a f/1.8 lens on a 12MP colour sensor and a f/1.6 lens on a 20MP monochrome sensors. Both phones however have AI processor tailored to help with image stabilization, sharpness, and professional like blur/bokeh backgrounds.
So, if I were you, I would buy the Huawei Honor 10 and get everything in Huawei P20 alongside getting the classy Phantom Blue rear cover and at the same time save some Kshs 20,000.
