It is worth noting that Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.96 percent. This was attributed to increase in prices of several food items which outweighed the decreases as outlined in the table below. The year on year food inflation stood at 11.03 per cent in October 2016.
Sugar is one of the commodities that people are concerned about. Well the average retail price for a 1 Kg packet of sugar for the month of October was Ksh.125.71. this was an increase of Ksh.4.97 comparable to the previous month of September. When we look at the bigger picture the same packet retailed at an average of Ksh.110.81 during the same time last year. This is a record increase of Ksh.14.9.
A 1 Kg packet of sifted maize floor was been offered at an average retail price of Ksh.114.4 compared to Ksh.113.79 the previous month. As you can clearly see that was an increase of Ksh.0.61.
