Tecno Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus specifications and price in Kenya

Tecno is not been left behind as other smartphone manufactures launch their devices. Tecno Phantom 6 and Tecno Phantom 6 Plus are the new versions of Tecno’s flagship device, the Tecno Phantom. They are the successors of the popular Tecno Phantom 5. The devices were launched officially on 25th September this year at an event at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The Kenyan launch took place on Friday, 7th October, end of last week in partnership with Kenya’s leading mobile service provider, Safaricom. This means that the Tecno Phantom 6 and Tecno Phantom 6 Plus will retail exclusively on Safaricom shops. This is a deviation from the norm where previously Tecno launched its flagship devices exclusively on the e-commerce platform, Jumia.

The Tecno Phantom 6 is expected to retail at Ksh.25,000 while the Phantom 6 Plus will set you back around Ksh.31,000.  In a nutshell Tecno claims that:

  1. The Tecno Phantom 6 is the slimmest phone with dual cameras
  2. The Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is the fastest Deca-core smartphone

Body

With the Phantom 6 you will get a brushed metal body with curved edges and an ultra-thin design at 6.15mm while the Phantom 6 Plus sports full metal body.

Display

The Phantom 6 Plus will feature a 6-inch FHD IPS touchscreen with a pixel density of 420ppi. This display will grant you a screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels.

On the other hand, the Phantom 6 will come with a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display with the same pixel density as the Phantom 6 Plus. The screen resolution is also 1080×1920 pixels. The displays for both phones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Operating System and Memory

Both smartphones are powered by the latest Tecno HioS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Phantom 6 Plus model features a massive 4GB RAM powered by 2.0 GHz 64bit MediaTek Helio x20 Deca-core processor. For internal storage it grants you 64GB expandable up to 256GB via a MicroSD card.

The Phantom 6 offers you 3GB RAM powered by 2.0 GHz MediaTek Octa-core processor. The internal memory is 32GB expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD card.

Camera

The Phantom 6 model comes with dual rear cameras:

  1. A 13 MP Sony IMX 258 Camera

This is for capturing the view

  1. A 5 MP camera

This is for detecting the depth of view

Both are auto-focus cameras with LED flash. At the front is the 8 MP Selfie camera with flash, f/2.0 Super Aperture and Wide Angle Lens.

On  this other side, the Phantom 6 Plus model sports a 21 MP rear camera with true tone dual flash and face detection autofocus for capturing moments in clarity. It also features an 8 MP Selfie camera with flash.

Connectivity

Both smartphones support 4G internet and Wi-Fi connectivity. Guess what? Safaricom is the only carrier in the country offering 4G connectivity though at select areas. Could this be the reason Tecno decided to partner with Safaricom rather than Jumia to launch the flagship devices?

The devices also come with USB Type-C port with super-fast charge capabilities. For the radio lovers these phones come with FM Radio.

Security

The Phantom 6 Plus smartphone features triple security features:

  1. 0 Eye Scanner
  2. TrustLook antivirus
  3. Fingerprint sensor which unlocks the phone in 0.3 seconds.

The Phantom 6 model just features the 2.0 Eye Scanner.

Battery

One thing to note is that both phones support Ultra power saving mode. The Phantom 6 Plus feeds from a 4050 mAh non-detachable battery while the Phantom 6 packs 2700 mAh battery.
