Telegram has launched a bot-powered Gaming Platform. You will now be able to use bots to play games in your chats, complete with graphics and sound. This comes a year after telegram introduced the Bot Platform.

What is interesting about the Gaming Platform is the competition across all your existing chats. The high scores for every game played in every chat gets saved. This enable you to compare your progress with that of your friends. It gets even better. Once a new high score has been recorded the other members receive instant notifications informing them that they need to step up their game.

The telegram games range from simple arcade games and puzzles to multiplayer 3D-shooters and real-time strategy games.  The Gaming Platform will support games made using HTML5 within groups or on one-on-one chats. Just like the webpages we are accustomed to, the games will be loaded on-demand as needed. Telegram confirms that there are about thirty games available to play as of now.

Ways to start a game on Telegram

  1. You can interact directly with the @gamee bot and follow the on-screen prompts.
  2. You can invoke the @gamee by typing its handle either in a group or in a one-on-one chat.

In order to play the games on the Telegram Gaming Platform you will need an iPhone 4 and newer or an Android 4.4 device and newer. Not just any version of Telegram Messenger will work. You will need to download Version 3.13 or higher to be able to play the games otherwise you will be met with the following message every time you try to play a game:

“This message is not supported on your version of Telegram. Please update the app to view.”

Telegram even goes ahead to point out the fact that the new Gaming Platform requires o bytes of disk space and won’t add a single byte to the size of the Telegram Messenger.
