Connectivity has become a central component for motor vehicles. Motor companies have embraced technology to keep up with the rapidly growing technology. General Motors has gradually grown to be popular for its android auto availability. Just last year, many GMC vehicles began offering available OnStar 4G LTE connectivity and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. The connection allows occupants to connect up to seven personal devices.
Many system features can be controlled by voice commands through a button on the steering wheel, helping drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
General Motors is now recalling 4.3 million vehicles around the wo rld because of a software issue that could prevent front airbags from deploying in a crash according to statement, seat belts may also fail.
This involves trucks, cars and SUVs from the 2014-17 models. The company has said it would contact customers and update their software for free.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the affected vehicles have certain driving conditions that may cause the airbag sensing and diagnostic module software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the front airbags and the seat belt pretensions would not occur in the event of a crash.
In 2014 the company recalled 2.6 million vehicles in connection with an ignition switch fault that disabled the airbags. The faults were responsible for 124 deaths and 275 injuries that the company compensated.
This being the second time the company has made a massive recall, GM has differed with claims that the recall might be of a big financial dent saying it would not have a material impact on its financial results.
GM still remains a popular manufacturer in the industry. Recently, the company was named Most Ideal Popular Brand in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards for the third consecutive year. Three GMC models led their respective segments, one of only two automakers to do so.
