GADGET REVIEW: 30 Days with the EB-U04 projector

Written by

Epson pitches the EB-U04 as a projector that can be used for either home entertainment or office presentations. I got to use it as a full home entertainment device considering its both utilitarian and living room friendly.

The EB-U04 with a glossy white top cover provides easy grip and portability thanks to its compact packaging. It is small and squat, with a noticeably more compact lens. The gadget come with two HDMIs to back its home-entertainment while its potential as a workhorse is enhanced by a USB port capable of playing multimedia files, a VGA PC input, and the ability of one of the HDMIs to handle MHL mobile phone playback.

The device also has an option of adding a wireless adapter ((the ELPAP10) which opens up the potential for using Epson’s iprojection app to stream a range of content- including photos, videos and documents directly from a mobile phone or tablet through the projector.

The “QR Code Reader” function also makes this wireless connection even easier by simply reading the QR code that is projected on the screen from your smart devices.

The Home Screen View provides access to your most frequently used functions immediately on the home screen. With all the information you need right there on the home screen, wireless connections have never been easier.

The Horizontal Keystone Adjuster spec helps deliver powerful presentations anywhere in the room. The easy-to-use sliding Horizontal Keystone Adjuster means screen corrections can be done quickly, easily and accurately, even in a limited space.

And with automatic vertical keystone detection and adjustment, there is no longer any need for awkward and time-consuming manual image adjustments that interrupt the smooth flow of your presentation delivery. This handy feature automatically detects the projector’s vertical keystone distortion and corrects it instantly.

The projector’s brightness and contrast is however weighted towards the business market rather than home-cinema which is not disadvantageous in any way. It has a PC-friendly 16:10 native widescreen aspect ratio rather than a video-friendly 16:9.
The Split Screen Display images from two different sources side by side on the same screen for a more effective presentation. In video conferences, for example, images of presentation materials and remote participants can be shown simultaneously.

Longer Lamp Life With a long lamp life of 10,000 hours in eco-mode, the frequency of costly lamp replacements is reduced, saving you time and money. This translates to one movie each day for 15 years.

Easy Lamp Replacement with the lamp cap located on the upper side of the projector, you can change lamps easily even if the projector is installed on the ceiling. Lamps can be replaced quickly without tools and dismounting of the projector from the ceiling mount.
