The world’s thinnest tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, has arrived in Kenya

Device manufacturers are still competing year in year out on who will carry the crown of making the thinnest phones/tablets, and as today Samsung wears this crown for its Samsung Galaxy A5 phone and now for the thinnest tablet yet and iPad copy cat, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Just two weeks after the 4:3 aspect ratio tablet was unveiled globally, Samsung has graced Kenya with the launch of the device.

Other than the fact that the tablet is thin and light, making it easier to carry around, the 4:3 recreates the same viewing experience of browsing through traditional print media, making it comfortable to read digital content such as e-books, magazines, webpages and newsfeeds. This reading-optimized ratio allows the user to enjoy a seamless reading experience without unnecessary scrolling. According to a statement from Samsung, “the Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy Tab S2 delivers 94% of natural tones to show true-to-life Adobe RGB color standard”.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 also has a new display technology that Samsung calls Adaptive Display. Adaptive Display intelligently adjusts gamma, saturation, and sharpness based on the application, the color temperature of the viewing environment and ambient lighting. Also, Reading Mode modifies the screen’s brightness level to allow users to read content for longer periods of time without straining their eyes.

The thinnest tablet yet comes in two screen variants – an 8 inches version and a 9.7 inches version – the choice of which will largely depend on customer’s taste. Both versions are powered by octacore (Quad 1.9 GHz + Quad 1.3 GHz) 64 bit processors with 3 GB of RAM suitable for seamless multitasking. The beauty of the tablets is that they are also powered by large batteries capable of giving heavy users more than 16 hours of daily use and average users can achieve up to 48 hours of use. The batteries have a capacity of storing up to 400o mAh worth of electric energy.

With this device, Samsung has decided to partner with Microsoft whereby Microsoft Applications including Microsoft Office Solutions such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel, One Note, and Skype are preinstalled. The Microsoft partnership also provides the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 owner a 100 GB of OneDrive storage free for two years.
