Customers can subscribe to the UnlimiNET bundles by simply dialing *544# from their Airtel phones and choosing their preferred bundle.
I recently bought an Airtel (Kenya) line to use on my modem.
They have a monthly unlimited bundle option, which is not actually unlimited
given you have a data cap of 20GB, but thatâs a story for another day.
One day before my bundles were to expire, it started acting
up. It would connect through the desktop application, however, once the browser
begun to load pages, the data flow would just stop. I carried out the usual shenanigans
of unplugging the dongle, restarting the computer etc⊠Nothing. So I called the
Airtel customer care to ask for assistance, as well as sending a tweet to their
handle. I explained my issue. They told me my line was still active and I still
had a few GBs of data on my line. They told me that they would forward my issue
to their networking team and call me back in 24 hours. By this time, I had
already confirmed that the line was what had a problem after trying to use it
on another computer as well as checking the dongle with another line.
About 28 hours later, no call. So I called them back. This
time, I was told that the issue had not been handled and it would take 48 hours
to resolve. All the questions I asked (even the simple ones) in order to
clarify the situation were curtly answered with âplease be patient until we get
back to youâ By now I had lost the data that was on the simcard. So I bought a
small amount of credit to test if the line, with a little money, would function.
Shockingly (NOT) It worked. They had done God knows what to my line and
fraudulently, I had lost my bundles. I know Iâm not the first and I probably wonât
be the last (not that Iâm condoning this).
My main issue is that the help line that should be able to
assist you with any problems with regard to their network left me quite
dissatisfied. They seemed either uninterested or clueless (if not both) about
their role. I hope, although I highly doubt, that they will take the customers
problems seriously and at least have an idea about any issues that could affect
their subscribers. As for me, I donât think I will be asking for their
assistance any time soon. The time I wasted waiting for their assistance was
all theyâll get from me. This was just an experience I wanted to share, if
anyone else has been through this, you have a new member in the club.
