Nokia Lumia 1020 now available in Kenya at Kshs 80,000

The Nokia’s top range handset for 2013, Nokia Lumia 1020, is now available in Kenya exclusively to Safaricom until December. Launched on Thursday last week at the KICC, the Nokia Lumia 2010 promises to offer a wide range of features specifically centered on its 41MP PureView Camera Technology.

The Lumia 1020 is able to produce some of the sharpest images thanks to its second generation 41 megapixel sensor, ZEISS optics with six lenses and optical image stabilization- allowing people to capture, edit and share photos and videos of professional quality.

The Pro Camera on Nokia Lumia 1020 reinvents zoom, enabling people to shoot first and then zoom later. This is quite different from the normal image zoom in other phones and cameras. With Nokia Lumia 1020 you can take an image from a distance, zoom in to particular spot on the image, and crop out that spot out with details as though the picture was taken at close range. Normally zooming in blurrs the image but Nokia Lumia 1020 promises to retain the details even at a distance. The phone also has a beautiful interface that visually demonstrates how settings will affect the final photo or video,a kin to Print Preview in most office apps like Ms Office 2010.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 Camera also features a dual capture functionality that simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a 5 megapixel picture that is easy to share to social networks with Windows Phone 8. Videos recorded with Nokia Lumia 1020 are blur-free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts thanks to Nokia Rich Recording, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.

“Kenyan consumers have embraced the Nokia Lumia range of smartphones,” says Bruce Howe, General Manager of Nokia East Africa. “Since we launched the first Lumia’s based on Windows Phone 8 earlier this year, the combination of beautiful design and differentiated software experiences has resonated with our consumers. Tonight, we take that passion for technology innovation one step further by welcoming the Nokia Lumia 1020 to the local market, a giant leap forward in mobile imaging”.

Nokia has given Safaricom exclusivity for the handset until Dec 2013, with a great local offer of KES 79,999 including 1.5GB data and a special accessory bundle including the DC18 charger and a Mozo leather cover.

Safaricom also announced several other deals across the Nokia Lumia range:

  • Nokia Lumia 925 at KES 53,999 with 1.5GB and 500 airtime
  • Nokia Lumia 625 at KES 28,999 with 500 MB and 250 airtime

“One of our core focus areas as a business is deepening internet penetration through the provision of smart phones among other data enabled devices . Partnerships such as this one with Nokia enable us to provide our customers with a range of quality devices while at the same time pushing us towards our goal of achieving wider and quality mobile internet experiences for the customer, enabled through higher  smartphones penetration,” said Morris Maina, Safaricom’s head of internet and content.

Other great features in the Nokia Lumia 1020 are the HERE suite which offers a range of services like the HERE Maps with augmented reality feature LiveSight, which makes it quick and easy to find new places to take photos.

Sales are expected to start in Kenya through Safaricom this week. The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in yellow and black.
