It is been rumored for a while that Apple is working a low cost smartphone especially meant for the emerging markets but now there seems to be a clear confirmation about it . According to Wall Street Journal Apple has picked Pegatron to assemble its low cost smartphone. I Can see most blogs are focused on the Politics of Apple side stepping its long time partner FoxConn in doing this but I think this is big for this side of the World.
Two days ago at Connected Kenya, Nzioka Waita of Safaricom , Martin Gicheru of Techweez and yours truly were discussing the issue of data use in Kenya and the possibility of Android taking over completely in Africa unless the other players do something. Nzioka predicted that Apple will have a low cost Smartphone in this market by next year. Well, the low cost iPhone is expected to be out later this year according to the report.
