InfoDev and Afrilabs will this Friday launch East Africa Virtual Incubation pilot program. The event will be held at the iHub from 5-7 pm on January 25th .
This project brings together infoDev (www.infodev.org) a global public program of the World Bank which works at the intersection of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship and AfriLabs (www.AfriLabs.com), a pan-African network of technology hubs. This particular program will engage a number of different AfriLabs members: m:lab East Africa, a Kenyan mobile innovation lab; NaiLab, a Kenyan start-up accelerator, Dar Teknohama Business Incubator, a Tanzanian technology incubator; Hive Colab, a Ugandan collaboration, innovation and incubation space; and the Technology and Business Incubation Facility, a Rwandan technology incubator.
This project builds upon an earlier infoDev study of opportunities for ICT interventions in East Africa, and benefits from funding from UKaid. The pilot program will seek opportunities for inclusive growth, job creation and poverty reduction by targeting growth-oriented technology entrepreneurs in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania who lack access to traditional incubation services.
