I have just got the email telling me that GOtv is excited to announce that the monthly subscription and the price of hardware has been reduced. Effective today, the new price structure will be as follows;
- GOtv bouquet monthly subscription will be KES 599.00 (was KES 720.00) and the bundle offer,
- Decoder + 3 months GOtv bouquet KES 4,900.00 (was KES 5,500.00).
Here comes the first signs that StarTimes is causing ripples across the board. StarTimes is selling its decoders at Ksh2,999 and subscriptions start at Ksh 499 for 30 channels. The service is expected to cover 70 per cent of the country’s population by end year.
As for the GOtv some of the channels available to GOtv subscribers include Africa Magic World, Africa Magic Swahili, Select Sport, One Gospel, E! Entertainment, Channel O, eTV Africa, and local channels such as KBC, NTV, KTN, Citizen TV.
GOtv is currently available to subscribers in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
Again, without Premier League, I don’t see pay TV going far. No one is going to pay for more music videos and Naija movies. That has already been overdone by free TV.
Very interesting point.. I think I need to do a new post about this..The Future of Paytv in Kenya or Africa!
