Nation Media Group is set to Battle Western Union with the Launch of a new Money Transfer Service

Nation Media Group today is set to launch a new Money Transfer Service calledĀ  NationHela. NationHela is an international money transfer serviceĀ  that allows Kenyans in the Diaspora to send money straight to a recipientā€™s NationHela account that can be accessed via a prepaid Visa card and their mobile phone.Ā  According to Nation Media Group NationHela is simpler, more convenient and cheaper than leading money transfer services. This is coming at a time when Western Union has stepped up its effort to regain the Kenyan market through a partnership with Safaricom Mpesa. Back in July Western Union started a promotion for customers sending mobile money transfers to M-PESA subscribers in Kenya.

According to that promotion a customers who tell at least three friends and family members through a qualifying referral about the Western UnionĀ® Mobile Money Transfer service from the U.S. to Kenya will receive a coupon for a
$0-fee* transaction. To qualify for the coupon, U.S. customers must ā€œtell a friendā€ through www.westernunion.com/mpesa using e-mail, Facebook or Twitter. The promotion runs until Sept. 7, 2012.

Western Union is looking for ways toĀ  expand its Mobile Money Transfer service to M-PESA subscribers in Kenya. For now the consumers can send money directly toĀ  M-PESA subscribers in Kenya from nearly 170,000 Western Union Agent locations in 91countries and territories, including the U.S.
