Written by

Safaricom has unveiled new SMS tariffs in the market.  Ok, time for texting and it is called  Masaa ya SMS, subscribers will be able to send text messages for as low as 20 cents .

The new tariffs were launched under the tagline “Say more for less permanently, on the Better Option,.”  Subscribers will be able to send text messages within Safaricom network at the lowest rates, depending on what SMS bundle one selects.

  • A bundle of 100 SMS will be available at 20 shillings= 20 cents per message sent.
  • Buy 20 text messages for 10 shillings= 50 cents per text message,
  • With  5 shillings, you can buy  5 SMS  = 1 shilling per sms

And as usual  CEO Michael Joseph said Masaa ya SMS was a way of thanking subscribers for their loyalty, really? mmmh

  • Safaricom offers are complex and cryptic, sometime you need a calculator or manuals to understand them! They seem to be hiding behind terms and conditions all the time, no wonder Zain found fault line to attack using that..

  • safaricom has been so ungrateful to its customers by bombarding them with bogus offers 100 sm per day kwani is it chrismas you are wishing your relays a merry one…and you want to go to parliament to complain ati there is unfair competition i wish i had the CEOs direct line….

    Peter March 10, 2011 11:11
  • Hmm, I know you're not the Safaricom help line… but this Masaa ya SMS is whack. It seems it has become Unlimited SMS now? They change promotions like the wind… who can keep up with all the hash codes and promotion names?

I was on Masaa ya SMS since kitambo, but now it seems I've been grandfathered into Unlimited, and I can't unsubscribe to either because *188# says I ain't subscribed! This morning they sent the usual "you have been renewed for 10 shillings" SMS, and took my 10 bob, so I'm obviously subscribed…

I know you ain't Safaricom customer care but I guess it's popular for people to complain here hahaahaha. Adios!

  • In the face of the lotteries, high octane marketing campaigns and the
desire to become rich, many Kenyans have been quick to spend their
hard-earned money on sending messages to the lottery numbers, only to be
shocked later on learning that the SMSs are charged at premium rates of
    up to Sh69 per each.
