With Apple expected to unveil iPhone 4G soon, it is time for the stores to get rid of iPhone 3G. Consumers can now purchase the 16 GB model iPhone for $97. Walmart is slashing prices of the 3G model to under $100, may be to get rid of it or make as much money as they can off of it. Well, that is still in US but if it is extended here then? majority of people in Africa can now own iPhones

Just saw this article and one thing you did not clarify or rather pay attention to in the article, is that discount phone prices in the US are usualy tied to 2yr contracts with the service provider. In other words, to get the phone for $97, one would have to sign a 2 Yr contract to only use AT&T in this case as it is the only provider that Apple sells their phones through. For a Kenyan and any other person not willing to be tied to one provider for 2 yrs, you would have to buy the phone at full price of $399.
I agree, it costs too much if you get the 3G for $97 + contract, I wanted it as well but passed after consideration..
