Smart bullet – you will no longer be able to dodge a bullet

Researchers at DARPA have made a bullet that can follow you wherever you go. It is shot at you, it smells you and like a dog follows you wherever you go. It doesn’t matter even if it shot by an amateur. They call it a Self-Guiding bullet and they have released a video to show you just how that works.

The smart bullet by DARPA is not new. Last year around this time they released a prototype capable of redirecting itself to the target to compensate for conditions like wind, shooter errors, and other unexpected factors that might send it off course. The bullet technically called EXACTO (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance) uses a special optical sighting technology and an integrated real-time guidance system to follow target.

As any advanced weaponry technology, the State must always explain why she feels such a development is necessary. In the case of the smart bullet, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) defend their smart bullet innovation by saying that snipers in extreme terrain like Afghanistan need weapons that compensate both for human and natural errors. An amateur sniper (if there is anything like that) can still hit the target even if in ordinary circumstances the fire would have been a miss.

As you can see in the video below, both expert shooters and amateurs were able to hit their targets, moving or not. Even if the bullet was shot after the target was already in motion, the smart bullet could still follow and hit the target. That’s not all. For those amazed or worried about this technology, it is important to let you know that the advancement on this bullet is not yet complete.
