iPhone 5C features and price

Most of us are in Android because of one major reason, they come in cheap. To lure us into its ecosystem, Apple today launched two variants of its 2013 phones for next year; the sky-high version (S version) and the cheap version (C version). Dubbed iPhone 5C, the little sister of iPhone 5S (actually she is iPhone 5’s sister) wears multicolored casing meant to attract all sorts of lifestyles. Whereas the S premier phone boasts of A7 64-bit processor, our affordable luxurious gadget is just but a tweaked iPhone 5 variant  featuring A6 32-bit processor and a meager 8MP camera. Here are hardware specs for our cheap iPhone that will cost you over Kshs. 48K before shipping and the current VA Taxation are included.

1. Processor

The iPhone has been fitted with the iPhone 5’s processor. It will run on an A6 processor clocking 1.3 Ghz duo core. The phone also features accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass sensors.

2. Storage and RAM

iPhone 5C comes as 16GB variant or as 32GB variant. The 16GB is the one to cost close to Kshs. 48,000 while the 32GB will need an additional Kshs. 9,000 to acquire. The RAM is not disappointing as it will run on 1GB RAM. Sadly there is no room for adding storage as the phone does not feature a card slot.

3. Body

Apple is known for premium cover but since we are going cheap, iPhone 5C comes in a curved hard-coated plastic back casing colored as either green, yellow, blue, white or pink. Each case is reinforced with steel to help improve network reception. The iOS7 will automatically color the screen to match the casing. Well, it has been said of the iPhone’s casing as “unapologetic”. Put another way, you won’t consider it a cheap plastic. The casing would not be complete without the “see me through” covers. Compared with iPHone 5, iPhone 5C will be slightly taller at 124.4 mm, slightly wider at 59.2 mm and significantly thicker at 9mm. It also weighs 20g more than iPhone 5 that weighs 112g.

4. Camera

The front camera has 1.2MP that has been improved to FaceTime HD. The front camera also has video recording capability at 720p@30fps and face detection. Main camera is an 8MP iSight camera with five-element lens and IR filter featuring autofocus, LED flash, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, and HDR with video stabilization.

5. Connectivity

Apple said during the launch that the phone supports more LTE bands. It has Bluetooth 4.0. HSPA+, LTE, Wi-Fi and also supports CDMA and GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900.

6. Battery

The standby battery can go for 250 hours, can clock 10 hours on talk time and 40 hours constant music play. The battery has been revamped and is expected to perform better than that in iPhone 5.

7. Display

The iPhone has been done great in terms of display. It has a screen the same size of iPhone 5 of 4 inches fitted with retina display with LED back-lit IPS LCD and a capacitive touchscreen of 16 million colors. Retina display is way better than SIII’s super AMOLED screen.

8. Price

Official pricing online is that the unlocked 16GB variant will go for $549 (roughly Kshs. 48K) and unlocked 32GB version will cost $649 (.roughly Kshs. 57K).
