Kenya’s Mobile Subscriptions Report Q3 2016: Safaricom Limited still leads with a massive 69% market share

Kenya's Mobile Subscriptions Report Q3 2016

During the July-September 2016 period, the number of mobile subscriptions stood at 38.5 million down from 39.7 million subscriptions recorded in the previous period, April-June 2016. This represented a decline of 3.0 percent. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) attributes this decline to revision of mobile subscriptions data by Telkom Kenya Limited to a regulatory requirement. Consequently, mobile penetration reduced to 87.3 percent down from 90.0 percent recorded during the preceding quarter. However, compared to the same period of the previous financial year, a growth of 1.9 percent was realized.

‘‘The alignment saw Telkom Kenya Limited report the number of active subscribers based on the prescribed 90-day period to comply with the regulatory condition.’’

-CA Director General Mr Francis Wangusi
