As can be deduced from the table below, the overall rate of inflation has been on the rise for the last couple of months. The most recent data released by KNBS puts the overall rate of inflation at 6.35 percent. This is a decrease from November’s 6.68 percent. This is the first decrease in the rate of inflation in Kenya in the last four months.
Since September this year the overall rate of inflation has been on an upward path. Back in August, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) registered the overall rate of inflation at 6.26 percent. Between December this year and the same month last year, the lowest inflation rate was recorded in May 2016 at 5.00 percent. The overall Consumer Price Index rose from 164.72 in December 2015 to 175.18 in December 2016.
