Huawei Mate 9 to ship with a dual camera and iris scanner

Huawei makers of the P9, that took Kenya by storm back in June, are at it again. The Chinese device makers bring you the Huawei Mate 9, a premium mid-budget smart phone with impressive features and elegant design and body that will definitely have you gasping if not rushing to make an order.

The Mate 9 set to make its debut in November will feature an iris scanner, synonymous with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and a dual 20-mega pixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) similar to the recently released iPhone 7 plus, paired with an 8 MP front camera capable of HD video recording.

The device also sports a Fingerprint Scanner on the back panel below the rear camera just like its predecessor the Mate 8, which is another major feature of the phone. Given that Huawei already deploys some of the fastest fingerprint scanners on its device, you are guaranteed not to be disappointed.

As far as software is concerned, the Mate 9 has an octa-core 2.5 GHz processor powered by an in-house Kirin 960 chipset and might be the first handset from Huawei that comes with Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box on a revamped version (5) of the Huawei Emotion UI.

The Mate 9 is packed with a non-removable 4250 mAh Li-Po battery, enough juice to last a day or two.

Google has been working on incorporating native pressure sensing technology in Android, a feature that will enable android powered devices have similar functionality to the 3D Touch display on the iPhone and as rumors have it the 6-inch Mate 9 will likely don a pressure sensitive display with gorilla glass for extra protection.

The Huawei Mate 9 will be available in four variants: Monarch, High, Carrier and Standard with the latter being the cheapest of the four.

Both the “Standard and Carrier edition” will sport 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and come in silver, gray and gold, retailing at 3199 yuan ($479) and 3399 yuan ($509) respectively.

The “High edition” will also have 4GB of RAM with 256GB of storage and will come in rose gold and white ceramic, costing 3899 Yuan ($584).

The “Monarch edition”, Mate 9’s premium edition, will feature 6GB of RAM with a whopping 256GB of storage and will be available in enamel gloss black and other listed colour options. The phone will cost around 4699 yuan ($700).

Huawei also plans to bundle the “Monarch edition” with its soon to be launched Huwaei watch 2, the bundle will retail at 7388 yuan ($1,107). The watch will also be available as an option for the other models.
