Safaricom has launched an MPesa Bill manager service

Safaricom has launched an MPesa Bill manager that will enable its customers to pay and manage Bills via M-PESA all in a single transaction.

The new MPesa Bill manager service will make it easy for users to pay for goods and services since will it will allow customers to set automatic reminders and save Pay bill numbers in order to streamline the payments process.

ā€œOver Sh20 billion is made in payments on the Lipa Na MPESA service on a monthly basis. This new service will empower our customers to take control of their bill payments made using the service and is one more benefit that we are able to roll out thanks to the migration of the MPESA servers back home last year,ā€ said Bob Collymore, CEO, Safaricom.

Besides Safaricom, other service providers like Equitel have utility payment services that are good in the mobile money landscape albeit the providerā€™s low recognition across the country. Last year, Equitel recorded 74 per cent of the loans disbursed through its mobile phone platform, which are 1.2 million loans worth Sh5.4 billion. In their quarter one 2016 financial year, they recorded over 10 million customers; 1.8 million of whom transact via Equitel mobile services which means that the service provider is slowly gaining ground.

Ideally, MPesa is a game changer when it comes to mobile money and over the last year Safaricom introduced other services to enhance M-Pesaā€™s functionality. Hakikisha; a service that allows subscribers to check the intended recipient of any funds ahead of making a transaction has so far helped many people in the country who lose money on the platform.

Other improvements include the easy-to-use menu that consolidates M-Shwari and KCB M-PESA, free M-PESA statements, USSD PayBill services, Real Time Settlements for merchants, and API functionality that enables developers to integrate M-PESA into their applications and websites.

ā€œM-PESAā€™s continued growth has been enabled by our continuous focus and investment that aim to continuously re-engineer the experience of our customers on the platform,ā€ said Mr. Collymore.
