Kenyan Blog Awards 2016 announcement

Bloggers are technically writers who upload words in the air for people to view and add comments. Anyway, it’s hard to ignore a catchy line or witty statement on Twitter. From the organized flow of thought and relevant use of words on the social media platforms, bloggers are now able to bring food on the table and complement mainstream media in news delivery. Kenyan Blog Awards pick the creme de la creme in the blogging community.

BAKE started the journey in 2012 and since then many bloggers have been discovered and crowned. In 2015, over 1800 blogs were entered into the competition and over 150,000 votes were recorded. The competition’s categories range from fashion to health to photography. There is also a category for corporates. It’s open to all Kenyans and brands that operate in Kenya.

This year, a new category called Best Religious has been added to complete the circle. The competition will begin with a submission phase and thereafter judges will choose the best 5 from the submissions. The public will then vote for the best blog in each category.

Kenyan Bloggers Awards winners for 2o15 were Mutua Matheka (mutuamatheka.co.ke), Silvia Njoki (silvianjoki.com), Wambui Waithaka (wambuiwaithaka.com), Sharon Mundia (thisisess.com), Jackson Biko (bikozulu.co.ke), Sam Wakoba (techmoran.com), Dennis Machio (michezoafrica.com) and Limo Taboi (bankelele.co.ke).

The awards bring out the best from bloggers in the country. To get the best, judges have to go through the sites and act as a bridge. Judges look at the relevance of content, consistency in posting, language use, writing style and marketing when coming up with the short list. Past judges of the competition have included: Pinky Ghelani, Philip Mwaniki, Ahmed Salim, Erik Hersman, Juliana Rotich, Joel Macharia, Naomi Wanjiru, Grace Makosewe, Lynda Nyangweso and Mbugua Njihia.

Last year’s event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel on 2nd May 2015 and it attracted many people in the online community. A good number of sponsors also joined to support the community. They were; Airtel, xpose, Hotel Intercontinental, Kenic, XNews, Coca Cola, Hivos, NIC Bank, Intel, Nation Media Group, and Transsion Group.

Bake provides that last year’s event was a success and they expect 2016 to be bigger and better.
