Ericsson Would Like To Explore The Future Of City Life Through Ericsson Innovation Awards

Why are you in Nairobi? That’s a question that everybody in the city should be asked. Ideally, people come to Nairobi to hunt. Cities hold the key to a world of opportunities and creates a space to grow a brand. Globally, people appreciate investing their money in companies that are located in city centers. A good example is the ongoing Tatu City project. People would like to be associated with Tatu because it will be a city in the future. Well, if all goes well.

It’s estimated, by 2050, 70 percent of the world’s population is expected to reside in urban areas and as a result smart cities are a huge opportunity to improve the lives of billions of people. In the spirit of transformation, Ericsson has opened registration for the regional and global Ericsson Innovation Awards (EIA) competition. A first in sub-Saharan Africa, students and small businesses will enter both the global (exclusive to students) and regional contests to win cash prizes of EUR 25,000 and EUR 9,000 respectively.

The two competitions have a theme that will be a guiding principle – the entrants will have to explore the future of city life. Ideally, the competition will give entrants an opportunity to develop innovative ideas in collaboration with Ericsson experts. The competition is therefore focused on ideas that use ICT to improve the quality of urban life and to ensure that tomorrow’s cities are creative, connected and sustainable places to live and work.
