Fire your customers to grow, is it possible in Kenya?

Would you really fire you loyal customers if you realize it is the only way to grow?  I read this story where Aprigo CEO Gil Zimmermann realized that he had to fire customers for company to grow faster.

So, in 2010, two years after launching a business that had consistently met its financial targets, Zimmermann saw the chance to grow even faster. Aprigo pivoted into CloudLock, and began operating exclusively on Google Apps. The company “fired” those customers who held data locally, refunding hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That has left me thinking, whether the same can work in Kenya, I mean, can any Kenyan company do the same?
